Anne P. Wert : 2019 Elected Artist

Creating art has always been an important part of my life. After many years living overseas in Europe and Asia, I’m visually drawn to both the simple lines and natural subject matter of Asian art and the deep perspective and use of light in more traditional European art.
While my background is in oil painting, recently I find myself interested in the unpredictability and speed of watercolors. My recent work reflects a renewed excitement and appreciation for landscape painting that I have discovered through watercolors. I want to make timeless images that reflect my own experience of being in that moment, but also allow the observer to connect to their own feelings about an object, a time, or a place.
I attended Parsons School of Design in Paris and am a graduate of the RISD Children’s Book Illustration CE program. I have had paintings and illustrations in shows at the Providence Art Club, Rhode Island Watercolor Society, Hera Gallery, R. Michelson Gallery, the Milford Art Council, and the Danforth Art Museum. My paintings are in private collections around the world, including Paris, Toronto, Dallas, Washington D.C. and New York.
