Artist Bio:
I grew up in New Jersey, South Africa, Denmark, Sweden and Massachusetts. My aspiration was to become an Olympic swimmer, a folk singer, or a concert pianist, as art was not taught in the odd assortment of schools I attended.
I got hooked on weaving in 1972, as a student at Massachusetts College of Art. For 8 years I wove items for sale, focusing on color and texture. Feeling trapped in the horizontal and vertical grid, I pursued an MFA in Painting at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. I intended to give up weaving, but almost accidentally the weaving and painting came together, and I’ve been weaving tapestries since 1983.
I am a recently retired librarian, and a volunteer distance learning mentor through the American Tapestry Alliance. I weave, teach, write, lecture, zoom, paint, garden and play piano and mountain dulcimer in Rhode Island.
