In the public art sphere, Art League RI is partnering with the Pawtucket Foundation on a pilot program to place art installations in vacant storefront windows in the inner core of downtown Pawtucket. The goals of the project are to activate the storefronts with artwork, inspiring engagement with local residents and community and help to usher in first steps to revitalization of the downtown Pawtucket area through artistic expression.
The project, entitled “Windows on Pawtucket” is being designed and supported by a committee of seven Art League members: (Karen Rand Anderson, Ellen Biegert, Rachel Brask, Robert Easton, Doug Rice, Heather Stivison, and Cindy Wilson).
A call for artwork will be announced in summer 2020, with art installation scheduled for September 2020. The artwork will be exhibited for a minimum of 10 months. Artists are invited to submit artwork for consideration in the windows, or artwork may be created for site-specific installation upon selection by the jurying committee.
