Art League RI is delighted to announce that Amelie Archambault is a 2024 recipient of the Iona Blake Dobbins Scholarship Fund for the Visual Arts.
Statement from the artist:
Art has kickstarted an appreciation for who I am that twelve-year-old me would have never thought possible. Every move I made used to be determined by what I feared others would think of me as I pushed myself as far back into the corner as I could. Over the years, I have struggled to break this mindset and behavior. Drawing and painting have significantly helped me express my emotions and slowly accept myself for who I am. Each of the pieces I submitted were drawings or paintings of myself using materials I have enjoyed learning. I adore experimenting with imagined shapes in my references or adding hints of colors that aren’t there to give more life to the overall piece. So long as there are materials to create with, art and I will live and breathe in tandem. I am honored to have been the recipient of this year’s Iona Blake Dobbins Scholarship, which financially encourages my artistic journey and will assist me in my hopes of improving my technical skills overall. I intend to use this scholarship to further my art education and hopefully achieve a career doing something I love. Although I intend to become a painting major, one of my main goals in college is to make connections with professors and visit artists who can inspire me to find new opportunities and ways to connect with the community through my art. I want to thank the Art League for its continuous show of support to the local art community and its generous contribution to Rhode Island’s artistic youth.
