Art League RI is delighted to announce that Gwendolyn Ruffolo is a 2023 recipient of the Iona Blake Dobbins Scholarship Fund for the Visual Arts.
Statement from the artist:
I have always had a passion for visual art. As a child, I would always be drawing. Now that I’m growing older, art has become an even greater influence in my life and is one of the most important aspects that I could not imagine living without. I try to draw or paint every day, both digitally and traditionally, to improve my talents and strive to be my most artistic self. As a current junior in high school, I have been blessed to have my work featured in several art shows and have received awards for my work. I am honored to receive this scholarship, which will help me advance toward my dream of having a career as an artist, providing me with money for art supplies that are necessary for me to continue creating art in the future. My dream is to eventually work as a professional artist in some form, whether it is a freelance illustrator or a concept artist for a studio. I aim to focus on character-based art as humans; storytelling has always been fascinating to me. I appreciate and respect the Art League of RI for its community youth outreach, and I thank you for your generous support of Rhode Island’s artistic youth.
